Material Check Friday 9-24-21

Students will have a material check on Friday 9-24-21.

All students will need to have their band book, music, pencil and instrument to receive a 100%.


If your child still needs a band book they can purchase one at school for $12.  See Mr. Gibson if you need a band book.

8th Grade Middle School Band Night October 22nd

 We will be having 8th grade band night Friday October 22nd.  All 8th grade band members will attend the Friday night football game and perform with the Clover HS marching band.  This is a mandatory event and students will be getting a grade for the event. 


Parents can meet their child at the stadium next to Blue Eagle Academy. I will have more specific information on where to meet the closer we get to the event. 

Tentative Schedule:

3pm-  Report to the band room after school 

3:15pm - 4:00pm Students will be eat pizza

4:00pm-5:30pm - Rehearse for performance

5:30pm Load the bus to the stadium


6:15pm Students will warm up with HS marching band

7:00pm students will play the fight song with the HS marching band during pre-game

7:30pm- halftime students will sit with HS marching band

Half time MS band will watch the HS band perform.

Jazz Band Auditions Monday September 13th 3:15pm-5:00pm

Jazz Band Auditions for 7th and 8th grade band students will be Monday September 13th after school from 3:15pm-5:00pm.

- Students will rehearse the audition material together then students will be asked to perform the selections. The audition process will be explained to the students prior to the audition.

- The results will be posted the next day outside the band room door.

- Jazz band will take place one rehearsal in the mornings and one rehearsal after school during the week. The days and times will be announced when the audition results are posted on September 14th.

Upcoming reminders for this week

Here are some reminders for the upcoming week:

- Students should be practicing daily. All big instruments should have gone home this weekend. Any student who leaves an instrument at school or forgets to bring their materials back to school will have a deduction in their weekly participation grade.

- 7th and 8th grade students should be practicing their scales/warmups and the concert music that has been handed out to them.

- 6th grade students should be practicing #1-10 in their band book.

- Please return forms/packets if you have not done so already.

- Morning practice has started! Students can come to the band room in the mornings to practice Monday-Friday before the bell rings. This is a great opportunity for our band students to get help on their instrument.

- 6th, 7th and 8th grade band books can be purchased for $12 at school. Please have your child talk to Mr. Gibson if you would like to purchase your band book this way vs. online.


- Select 7th grade students will be fitted for school instruments next week. More information will be provided to the students on Monday.

- 6th grade percussion round one has been complete and students were notified of their status this week. The second round begins on Monday. We are hoping to finalize the 6th grade percussion section by the first full week of September. Thank you for your patience with this tedious process.

Students Awesome job this week! Students have been demonstrating the exceptions of our band program at a high level. Keep up the great work! If you have any questions or concerns please email me at Nicholas.gibson@clover.k12.sc.us

Here are some reminders for parents and students:

- Please turn in all signed forms.

- Students should be practicing daily. The happiest band students are the ones who are practicing their craft.

- Big instruments (Tuba/Baritone/Bass Clarinet/Bari Sax/Tenor Sax) can leave their instruments in the band room during the week and take instruments home over the weekend.

- School owned instrument forms will need to be completed and turned in before a student can take the school instrument home. (Separate form from the packet. Select students only.)

- We will begin morning practice for big instrument students / All students starting next Thursday. Students will be provided information in class on how morning practice will work.

-Students should be keeping up with their equipment. No instruments should be left at school without directors approval.

- 6th and 7th grade students will need to have the essential elements band book 1

-8th grade students will need to have their 8th grade book Foundations for Superior Performance by the end of September.

- If a student needs a band book they can buy one through the school for $12.

- 7th and 8th grade students should be practicing their concert Bb and Concert F scales

- 7th grade students will get to see the instruments they can switch too this week. If you are interested in switching your instrument sign up on the interest form in the band room.

- All woodwind students will need to be playing on a good reed. Information about reeds will be handed out within the upcoming weeks.

- 7th and 8th grade students will be receiving their concert music starting next week.

-6th grade percussion parents will be contacted early next week to get their child's equipment. If not selected for percussion you will be notified early next week and your child's second choice will be honored.

Class 8-18-21

We did a lot better yesterday! We only had 6 students leave their instrument.  We need to have all students take home their instrument every day.  

Big instruments can stay in the band room and take home over the weekends.

School owned instruments have been handed out yesterday.   Students with school owned instruments will be allowed to take the instrument home after the form is signed and returned.  

All 6th grade percussion students have started round two assessments. We are hoping they should be complete early next week.  Parents once your child has been confirmed as a percussion student you will receive an email from me on how to purchase their instrument.

All students will continue to go over classroom rules and expectations. 

All forms will need to be signed and returned in the envelope provided by Friday August 20th. 

Music will be handed out this week to 7th and 8th grade students. 

Musical worksheets will be handed out to students this week.  These sheets should stay in their band folder. We will be going over them throughout the month.

 Awesome job yesterday! Please keep in mind the following:

Students will need to take their instruments home daily.  There was little confusion due to the first day schedule but we will work on this this week.

Big instruments can stay in the band room.  More information will be provided today.

School owned instruments will be handed out today.  Students with school owned instruments will be allowed to take the instrument home after the form is signed and returned.  More information will go out today.


All 6th grade percussion students will be assessed for round two in the upcoming weeks.  Parents once your child has been confirmed as a percussion student you will receive an email from me on how to purchase their instrument.

Some 6th grade students will be fitted for instruments today in class.
