Meet The Director


Mr. Nicholas Gibson is a native of Goshen, New York.  Mr. Gibson recived his master degree in jazz performance from Winthrop University in May 2018 and his undergraduate degree in music education from Winthrop University in 2008. Mr. Gibson is teaching in the Clover School District serving as director of bands at Clover Middle School and assistant director of bands at Clover High School. Mr. Gibson previously taught in the Gaston County School District serving as director of bands at Forestview High School in Gastonia NC. At Forestview, Mr. Gibson has developed a successful marching band, concert band, jazz band, jazz combos, symphonic band, indoor drum line, winter guard, flute choir, clarinet, choir, saxophone quartet, brass ensemble, percussion ensemble, musical pit ensemble, as well as a pep-band.  All of the bands under Mr. Gibson's direction have earned superior ratings at local and state contests. The Marching Jaguars competed on a national level at Forestviews first Bands of America appearance in Winston Salem in the Fall of 2017.  All the bands under Mr. Gibson have consistently received superior ratings.  At Forestview, Mr. Gibson received a superior rating four years in a row  with the Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band. Mr. Gibson previously served Union County Public Schools as the head band director of Monroe High School in Monroe NC. While at Monroe, Mr. Gibson assisted with 4 middle school ensembles and directed the Monroe High Schools jazz band, jazz combos, marching band, pep band, indoor drum-line, winter-guard, brass ensemble, woodwind ensembles, small ensembles, concert band and symphonic band.  During his tenure he has built the Monroe band program from 15 to  80 students. While serving the Monroe area his middle school band program has grown from 70 students to over 200 students. He is a member of the South Carolina Music Educators Association, Music Educators National Conference and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. As an accomplished saxophone player, Mr. Gibson also gigs regularly around the Charlotte metro area and teaches private lessons. Mr. Gibson currently resides in Rock Hill SC with his wife Katie, daughter Sarah, and dog Emma.
