Important Parent Announcement

Parents,

Again, I cannot thank you enough for your continued support.  Our band students are continuing to make progress everyday.  I am extremely proud of all of our band students!

This week during 7th and 8th grade class, students will be auditioning for the 7th/8th grade honor band.  Auditions will consist of sight-reading, Concert Bb scale and an excerpt from their concert music. This will be the ensemble that will perform at our SC music festival in the spring.  More information will be handed out to the students after auditions.  This ensemble will meet after school 2 days a week to prepare for concerts festivals etc. Again, more information will be provided after auditions.

7th and 8th grade students who were interested in switching instruments have auditioned this past week. (Tenor Sax/Bari Sax, Bass Clarinet,Horn, Baritone and Tuba)  It is an extremely honor if your child auditioned and made it on one of these instruments.  More information will be provided to these students this week.  All of the students selected will be assigned a school owned instrument by the end of the week.

6th grade band students are making progress everyday and are on pace to do great things by the end of the year.  Please make sure students are practicing out of their method book daily. They have also learned "We will rock you". This week we will be learning more songs in the band method book. Please make sure they are practicing everyday.

All band students can come to the band room in the morning to practice.  I will greet car riders by 7:20am every morning to come down to the band room to practice. All bus riders can practice when they get to school before the bell rings as well.

If a student is not happy with their grade they can retake their playing tests before school or after school as many times as they want until the end of the 9 week grading period. All students will have to present their rubric from the original test before they can retest. Please email Mr. Gibson if you have any questions.

Jazz band auditions will start this week for any students who are interested. Students will be asked to play a concert Bb scale and sightread a 4 measure jazz passage. Auditions will take place before school, during class, and after school.  If selected Jazz band will rehearse two days a week in the morning to prepare for concerts, festivals etc. More information will be provided after auditions.

Tee shirt orders have been placed. Tee shirt orders should be in between 2-3 weeks. An announcement will be made to students when the order is in.

Disney payment information will be posted by the end of the week.

The expectations are high with our band program. Students who decide to make poor choices in class will be serving detention this week after school.  Please encourage our students to continue to be respectful during rehearsal and to practice everyday. We have gone over classroom expectations the past three weeks and we will continue to enforce the exceptions of an extraordinary band member. If you have any questions please email Mr. Gibson.
