Important Announcements for Parents and Students

If your child would like to practice before school starts they can come down to the band room in the mornings.   I will be in the gym for car riders to practice around 7:20am. Students who ride the bus can drop off their instrument or practice when the bell rings at 7:40am. 

Band method books must be purchased by October 1^st.  You can order the book online or through any music retailer. I recommend ordering the book from amazon.  It will be cheaper than going through Pecknel. However, if you would like to order your book through Pecknel Music please make a check out to clover middle school for $12 and I will have your order placed through Pecknel Music. Books should be in about two weeks after the order has been made. If you pay cash please have exact change. If you have any questions please email me and I will go over your options with you.

LAST DAY TO ORDER A BAND TEE SHIRT IS FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 7th. Please make your $12 checks payable to Clover Middle School or have exact change with your order form.  If you need an additional order form please email Mr. Gibson. 

We currently have enough interest for a band to participate in the Disney Festival in the Spring.  More information will be handed out to the students within the week about specifics for this trip for our 7^thand 8^thgrade students. Currently the price is $625.  This includes charter buses, hotel, breakfast at the hotel, Disney Festival fee, and admission to all the Disney parks.  More information will be provided later in the week. 

6th grade students will be going to the Carowinds Festival in the spring. 6th grade students will also participate in the solo and ensemble festival in the spring. These festivals are designed for our students to have fun and grow as a musician.  More information will be provided at a later time. 

7th and 8th grade students who are interested in switching instruments will audition starting this week. (bari sax, bass clarinet, tenor sax, horn, baritone and tuba.). Once all auditions are complete students will be notified of any changes.

Students will also have the opportunity to audition for Jazz band and 7th and 8th grade honor band within the next couple of weeks.  More information will be provided later this week to our band students.

Students will need to purchase their band book by October 1st. 

Parents I need your help. Please discuss the importance of responsibility with your child.  It is very important that students take their instruments home every night and practice the material that was taught during the day.  This is the only way students will progress. I have noticed several instruments left in the hallways during the day/overnight.  I spoke to the class about not leaving their instrument in the hallways for anybody to pick up. I have also noticed a lot of students not picking up their instrument at the end of the school day. This has gotten better as the week has gone on but we still have some of our band students who are struggling with this concept. Any help I can get from home would be greatly appreciated.

Band Tee Shirts For Sale Until September 7th

Last day to order a CMS band tee shirt is September 7.  Please make check payable to Clover Middle School. If you are paying with cash please have exact change.  All students who have already paid for their tee shirt has been given a receipt. All band tee shirts will be ordered on September 7^thand should arrive within 2-3 weeks after the order has been placed.

PARENTS PLEASE READ (BAND REMINDERS FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS)

Here are a few reminders:

It is an expectation that your child practices every night. This is the only way students will reinforce the information that has been taught to them during the school day. Students will be receiving a grade in the form of performing assessments and written assessments. Playing tests will be on Mondays starting the week of September 4^th.  Please encourage your child to practice the material we go over in class daily. 

Sign-up sheets for ensembles are posted in the band room. I will have a list of days and times of when these ensembles will meet.  Some groups might meet in the mornings other groups might meet in the afternoon.  Once auditions are complete I will have this information for you.  Please check the band calendar as there are some audition dates already in the books.  https://clovermiddleschoolbands.blogspot.com/p/clover-middle-band-calendar.html

I am encouraging your child to keep the band room clean and organized. There are a lot of cases in the instrument closet.  It is important to make sure your child’s case is labeled with their name on it.  All students who are playing on a school bought instrument will need the school owned instruments form completed before the student is allowed to take the instrument home.  This form was given out the first week only to students who are playing a school owned instrument.

Students who play saxophone or clarinet will need to purchase reeds for their instrument.  I have a limited supply here at the school.  If any woodwind students need a reed at school ,if it is in stock, the reed will cost $2 for an alto sax or clarinet reed.  It is $3 for bass clarinet, tenor sax and bari sax reeds. If reeds are taken care of they should last approx. 2-3 weeks.  There is more information on the band website with the specifc type of reed that our woodwind students will need. 

If your child is in 7^thand 8^thgrade and is interested in going on a spring trip to Disney, please take the survey that is on the middle school band website. We almost have enough students to have a band perform in the Disney festival.  More information will be provided once the suvey is complete by 50% of the band students.
